Frequently Asked Questions
Why Starlink?
Starlink is the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to deliver broadband internet capable of supporting streaming, online gaming, video calls and more.
Most satellite internet services come from single geostationary satellites that orbit the planet at 35,786 km. As a result, the round trip data time between the user and satellite—also known as latency—is high, making it nearly impossible to support streaming, online gaming, video calls or other high data rate activities.
Starlink is a constellation of thousands of satellites that orbit the planet much closer to Earth, at about 550km, and cover the entire globe. Because Starlink satellites are in a low orbit, latency is significantly lower—around 25 ms vs 600+ ms.
REGULAR ACCESS TO SPACE
As the world’s leading provider of launch services, Starlink, a subsidiary of SpaceX, is the only satellite operator with the ability to launch its own satellites as needed. With frequent, low-cost launches, Starlink satellites are constantly updated with the newest technology.
Leveraging advanced satellites and user hardware coupled with SpaceX deep experience with both spacecraft and on-orbit operations, Starlink delivers high-speed, low-latency internet to users all over the world.
Why Winegard and SAS HALO?
Before Winegard invented an antenna capable of tuning into multiple channels, Yagi TV antenna owners were limited to watching only one channel. Now, 66 years later, Winegard holds 90 U.S. patents and has designed over 1,000 TV, satellite, and wireless antennas. The company has evolved from creating high-powered television antennas to engineering high-performance wireless and satellite broadband antennas for Internet and IoT applications. Based in Burlington, Iowa, Winegard is a stocking Starlink reseller with over 10,000 clients. Their helpdesk is staffed with knowledgeable personnel familiar with the satellite industry, and they have an excellent track record in friendly customer service.
SAS HALO is a leading provider of comprehensive security solutions, dedicated to creating safe environments for educational institutions. By integrating cutting-edge technology and best practices, SAS HALO is committed to protecting students, teachers, and staff nationwide. Recognizing the limitations of traditional school system LANs and WANs, SAS HALO is now offering a national education purchasing program through Winegard. This program leverages SAS HALO’s design and installation teams, with over 6,500 certified technicians, to professionally implement Starlink systems for districts and schools. Schools can start their service through Starlink without implementing a security system from SAS HALO and may use the Starlink system as a backup to their primary ISP.
What is the Priority Data Plan followed by unlimited standard data?
The Starlink Priority Data Plan offers a two-tier data experience. Subscribers first receive a specific amount of high-priority data, which is designed to deliver faster speeds and higher bandwidth for tasks like video conferencing, streaming, and other data-heavy activities.
After the priority data is exhausted, users still have access to unlimited standard data, though it will be at slower speeds and may be affected by network congestion. This structure ensures continued connectivity even after the high-priority data is used up, though performance may be reduced.
How Does this Plan Work?
After our communication and your decision to move forward, you will send your purchase order to SAS HALO, specifying your Starlink Priority plan, your choice of Starlink dish, and the design and installation costs. Upon confirmation, Winegard will ship your Starlink dish, along with the required equipment and cabling, to our installation team. They will arrive at the agreed-upon time to review and implement your design and installation.
Following the implementation, our installers will provide an orientation on your Starlink system, including online management, and will answer all your questions. After the installation, you will sign the client acceptance form, and have access to Winegard’s Help Desk for friendly support whenever needed, as well as access to SAS HALO for any additional assistance.
What About Onsite Warranty?
Yes. We will make onsite service warranty available to you based on your geographical location with a quote.
Can I Cancel my Service at any Time?
Starlink’s cancellation policy provides users with the freedom to try the service and determine if it meets their needs without the risk of being tied into long-term commitments.
Starlink allows customers to cancel their service at any time without any penalties. This flexibility is designed to accommodate users who may need temporary internet solutions or who may find the service unsuitable for their needs,
Customers have a 30-day trial period for the hardware. If they cancel the service within this period, they are eligible for a full refund on the hardware cost. However, if the cancellation occurs after the 30-day trial, the hardware cost is non-refundable. The design and installation costs are not refundable after client acceptance.
Starlink offers various service plans, including standard, priority, and mobile plans. Each of these plans provides the flexibility to pause or cancel service, ensuring users are not locked into long-term contracts.
For mobile users, including those using the Flat High Performance dish, the service can be canceled or paused as needed, allowing users to manage their internet needs according to their travel or operational requirements.
Can I order the equipment with access to the helpdesk without the onsite installation?
Yes, you can order without the design and installation. While we encourage a professional installation, we understand that many school systems and there area education service agencies can provide this onsite installation.
Which Starlink Dish is Best for You?
Our expert engineers will qualify your needs and environment to ensure you are comfortable making the best decision. Our design team then creates a statement of work for our on-site installers to install your system, provide an orientation and answer all of your questions.
Are there any differences between installing a Flat High Performance dish vs the actuated High Performance? While performance and integration are largely the same, there are a few differences to note when installing the Flat High Performance dishes:
The Flat High Performance dish ($2,500) offers several advantages over the standard Starlink dish ($499), making it suitable for specific high-demand scenarios and environments. Here are the key differences and benefits:
Enhanced Connectivity:
Wider Field of View: The Flat High Performance dish has a broader field of view, allowing it to connect to more satellites simultaneously. This results in more stable and consistent connectivity, especially in areas with a clear view of the sky.
Durability and Weather Resistance:
Greater Durability: This dish is built to withstand harsh environmental conditions such as heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. It is particularly designed for rugged use, making it ideal for mobility applications.
In-Motion Use:
Mobility: Unlike the standard dish, the Flat High Performance dish is capable of maintaining connectivity while in motion. This makes it suitable for vehicles, buses, boats, and other mobile setups where a stable internet connection is needed on the go.
Enhanced GPS Capabilities:
Improved GPS: The dish includes advanced GPS features that enhance its performance in tracking and maintaining connections with satellites, which is beneficial for applications requiring precise location tracking.
Higher Power Consumption:
Power Requirements: The Flat High Performance dish consumes more power (110-150W) compared to the standard dish (50-75W). This higher power usage supports its advanced features and robust performance but may require more substantial power sources.
Use in Oceanic Regions:
Ocean and Remote Use: It is specifically recommended for use in remote and oceanic regions, where maintaining a stable connection is critical. It supports connectivity even far from shore, making it ideal for maritime users.
The standard Starlink dish, on the other hand, is more affordable and suitable for typical residential and some mobile use cases where high mobility and extreme durability are not as critical.
These features make the Flat High Performance dish a better option for users who need reliable, high-speed internet in challenging environments or while on the move, despite its higher cost.
